Oh my goodness gracious I cannot tell you how excited I am as I am writing this post. I have been wanting to share his name since we decided on it in February! I am sure you have already figured out his name by the pictures above but if you have not, we are naming our first baby Ralph Bonham Havins.
Since Wade and I got married (almost 6 years ago), we have always had a long list of baby names. I mean who doesn’t have at least a few names in the back of their mind? This list consisted of names that we both liked and didn’t like. After we found out I was pregnant last fall, we got a bit more serious about our list. The list of girl names consisted of about 11 names and the boy list was just made up of about three names. Every so often we would edit the list and occasionally add to it. Sometime in December, Wade randomly said “what about Ralph?”. Not thinking too much into it, I said sounds great and added it. After a couple of weeks the name really started to grow on me but I was CONVINCED we were having a girl, so I was more focused on narrowing down the girl name column until one night I had a dream we were having a boy. I told Wade about my dream and his response was that was FOR SURE a dream but I was convinced we were having a boy.
Funny enough, a week later we got a call from doctor letting us know that we in fact were having a boy!!! We were both in shock. SO excited but just stunned because we thought there was no way (we both have SO many girls in our families). After we found out it was a boy; we both immediately agreed that Ralph just seemed ‘right’ and that it was totally an ‘Amy & Wade’ name. We had always wanted to name our baby an ‘old’ name that was not as common but also traditional. Our formula for naming ’round one’ was the first name would be a name WE both loved, and the middle name would be a name that came from my side of the family. For our second (if we are so lucky), we plan to do the same thing, except the middle name would come from Wade’s side of the family.
For Ralph’s middle name we had a list of a few family names from my side but Bonham was always the favorite. Bonham is my grandmothers maiden name (now her middle) and also one of my triplet cousins middle names. Also, if you know me or you know my grandmother (Annie); you know that I love her more than anything, so to be able to name our first baby and her first great-grandchild after her seems like the perfect fit.
Ralph Bonham Havins…has a nice ring to it doesn’t it? We are both just obsessed and are literally counting down the weeks until we get to meet our sweet little baby boy!
