Last Sunday (May 7th), 5 of my besties threw me (and Ralph) a baby shower. While I am not going to share details of the shower justttt yet (a full post with photos coming soon, I promise), I did want to share what I wore to my baby shower!
I am not going to lie, now that I am almost 31 weeks, finding dresses (especially online) has gotten kind of tricky because I really don’t know how things are going to ‘fit’. Yes, I have been really lucky and ordered a few gems that have ‘grown’ with me throughout the spring but when it came to finding a great dress to wear to my baby shower, I had terrible luck. I cannot tell you how many dresses I ordered online thinking they would work. I would find something so lovely, order it and once it finally arrived and I tried it on it was a no-go. It either hit my bump awkwardly, it had a zipper (zippers are tricky with baby bumps) or it just looked TERRIBLE on my body.
As someone who is quite picky about what I wear, ESPECIALLY when I am attending a party that is in my honor; I wanted to find something that I felt comfortable in but also did not scream ‘I’m pregnant’. For some of you reading this, me wanting to find a dress that doesn’t call too much attention to my bump may sound odd. For me, dresses that scream ‘look at my baby bump’ are a waste of money. I know that once this little guy has arrived, a ‘body con’ or more fitted dress is going to be the LAST thing I want to wear. Searching for non-maternity dresses that I can wear now and also post baby make the most sense FOR ME and my wardrobe…plus they make me feel comfortable with my body.
After LOTS of at home try on sessions, I finally gave in and headed to a (new) favorite store since I became pregnant. I literally walked in, saw this white dress on the hanger, grabbed it and headed straight to the dressing room. You guys, I cannot tell you how excited I was to find a shift dress that was white and that actually fit! I am not kidding when I say that this particular shopping errand was the quickest I have had in a long time. I was in and out of the store in about 7 minutes (including dressing room time). For this pregnant girl, who has spent more time than I could ever want in dressing rooms the last 7 1/2 months, this trip was a dream. Oh and the best part about this white dress? The price. This little white dress is so reasonable which I loved.
After my quick dress errand, I walked across the street to a favorite shoe store to see if they had anything fun that I could pair with my new white shift dress. After browsing for a few minutes, I saw these blue sandals and I just had to have. I always lean towards shoes that are a bit more classic, so I thought it would be fun to add a neutral pair with a little edge like these to my summer shoe closet. Plus, the heel is great (not too high) and the color is in one of my favorite shades.
It’s so funny how you can search SO hard for something to wear to an event and the minute you stop worrying about it; the item appears in front of you, fits perfectly and it all works out perfectly. I loved wearing this little white shift dress to my baby shower and I cannot wait to wear it over the next 8 weeks and of course after Ralph arrives!
